  1. I only know how to make one type of joint ? perhaps I understated my diy incompetence
  2. Last I heard you had to do some sort of refresher every 5 years. Doesn’t need to be in the same unit though
  3. How could that be joined together? Crappest diy’er ever here
  4. Doesn't need to be pretty. It just needs to last. It will be for an underground structure for something like this.
  5. Thats entirely up to you what you do. I'm merely putting people who want wood chips in touch with people who have them to spare
  6. Any suggestions? needs to be easy to work with/cut/screw/glue and 100% waterpoof. Will have earth piled on top of it for several years to come.
  7. And sorry for the delay, we got there in the end though
  8. You will get whatever the difference is So if you spend £3000 on vat in a quarter, and charge £2000 worth of vat on your invoices, you will get a £1000 rebate
  9. After 12 months of development we are delighted to announce the launch of the new Arbtalk Tip Site Directory. As an arborist of 22 years I am all too aware of the need to offload vehicles part way through the day. Not a problem when working locally, but for companies working outside of their usual area, a place to unload can make a massive difference to the job. Best case scenario, you have to spend an hour hunting round the local area, knocking at farmers doors...worst case scenario, you don't get the job finished. This is where the tip site directory comes in. How it works Simply navigate to the search nearby tip sites button, enter your town/city, radius, and search! Thats all there is to it. Important information Our listings are made up of a variety of sites, from recycling centres, to farms and equestrian centres, all the way to allotments and even regular homeowners. Many of these tip sites have listed specific things they will or won't accept. Please make sure you read through the listing thoroughly and give the tip site owner an honest account of what you propose to tip before arriving. Your feedback is important So we can continue to improve the directory, it is vitally important we have your feedback. The best way you can do this by leaving a review each time you visit a tip site. This can be found at the bottom of each listing. In addition, we welcome feedback on how we can improve the directory as a whole. Please take a minute to tell us how we did, and any features you think we should implement in future. Please visit our feedback forum here SEARCH TIP SITES View full record

  11. You nailed it Tom. Just spoke to a local arborist who is familiar with the estate and gave me a positive ID it’s a Lucombe Oak- Quercus x hispanica A natural hybrid between Turkey and Cork oak
  12. they'll be wearing pink chainsaw trousers next. Oh wait, thats already a thing
  13. Maybe they are teaching this on the assumption that the student doesn't have the brains to decide when its necessary, so just do it all the time. Who knows what they are thinking
  14. absolute nonsense. If anything its increasing the chance of an accident. We all know a kickback is more likely to occur doing a bore cut then simply coming in from the back.
  15. Look, theres @Stephen Blair's great great grandfather in the bottom right corner ?
  16. 1869 according to the original post. No further information on location or anything else
  17. The Arbtalk tip site directory for wood chips and firewood is a work in progress and we appreciate any feedback which helps to make this a better service. This thread is a place to report any issues you find when using the directory, or for suggestions on any features you feel could be added to benefit the directory. Current wood chip tip site listings: The majority of these are untested sites. Over time we will be looking to remove any that are deemed unsuitable. We can only do this with your help, so please leave a comment or review on any tip site you use for the benefit of other members. New tip sites: Want to help us increase the amount of tip sites? You can do this by sharing the service far and wide. If you know someone you think might be interested in offering a tip site, please let them know about the site. I look forward to reading your feedback.
  18. They are a business...I expect their log fires are there for the ambience rather than practicality...of course they want the logs to last as long as possible
  19. Hi Sophia, Welcome to the forum. You said you have set up a business, sounds like its a recent one? I'll tell you now that firewood customers are notorious for complaining, no matter what you do. I wouldn't let one complaint overly bother you.
  20. Never heard about this one. Poor guy! https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6283519/Tree-surgeon-paralysed-giant-oak-rolls-crushes-spine.html?fbclid=IwAR2H5KI6Cn6wGG-3bpcefNyjSikg_ti5WTKoSjMRsJu4QYvL5l3fEVNxqNo
  21. Got one close by. I'm reliably informed by my girlfriend that no one would use a donate button...shes most probably right, but I bet her a fiver on it regardless...so if anyone wants to donate 1p we can split the winnings ? You'll be able to get the contact details for that one when the site goes live later. If you need them before just pm me.
