prayer tree

This is an ancient sweet chestnut in Galicia Spain. It is within an ancient forest with a 16th century monastry. The monks maintained (pollarded) the forest which lies on a sharp incline

This tree is now used as a prayer tree. There were handwritten prayers, photographs, cigarettes etc. Things that people wanted to give up etc. Prayers for sick relatives. 2 photo's show the front of the tree and the 3rd the rear. This was a very special place....i could have sat and enjoyed the atmosphere for hours. The distant rush of the river from the ravine below, the birds, it was bliss.....and then back to reality....3 kids..." stop it will ya....mum, dad.....he's hitting me. no i'm not....this is boring....can we go now?....its just a load of rocks and trees.....

Anyone want to swap 3 kids for some decent arb kit?

Galicia, Asturias, and the Picos are next on the list. What little i've seen of northern Spain (top end of Pyrenees, Basque country) has impressed.Where did you stay? Hotel, campsite, campervan? It always seems more complicated (and Expensive) when you've got kids.

Loads of Europe i'd like to see, went to Slovakia for a wedding last year and the walking and scenery (High Tatras) was incredible - 10% of the countryside is virgin, with bear, lynx, bison etc. Just always reinforces what a tiny little overcrowded island we live on:thumbdown:
