Hello

Hi all,I'm new here,been watching for a bit,but thought it was about time I got involved and share some pics since I've been looking at all your stuff for a while.(which is all great by the way)

Come to realise that everyone has their own interpretation and style when it comes to carving,and while there are some outstanding artists,I wouldn't poo poo anybodies efforts, it's all experience and practice. I'm not a arborist or the like, just a hobby carver, so a very steep learning curve to start out.

Funny when I read stuff like I wish I could do that,or how talented someone is, granted some folk "have an eye" for it, but everyone knows what a mushroom looks like, have a doo.

Having said all that,here's my first ever effort. Not sure what it is, didn't start off with a clear vision in mind(which helps) just a "woodland creature" ??? Had to stop carving due to the tears off laughter rolling down my face.

Please comment/ rip the etc.

No.1 Is having the balls start carving and just go it im going for it!

To be fair its a real good start. Has two ears and two arms, so you didnt slip and chop them off. :-)

Its all practice so keep going and you will see improvements through every carve you do.

Knew on arbtalk myself, the first owl I made , when I picked it up to carry it down the garden the legs fell off .welcome .

Include me aswell, I tried to make Santa once, then it was demoted to Elf and then tried to make an ear and decided a wonky mushroom it would have to be:blushing:

I like it too, it looks like a hare having a wee sit up on it's hind legs to me. Coming on thirteen years since I first used chainsaws and not sure I could do that. Keep posting!

That's looking pretty good. I would recommend giving a light sand with an angle grinder (sanding disc) just to smooth off some of the edges. then have a go at adding a bit of fur detail either with the angle grinder or chainsaw. Blow torch out and you will be amazed as your piece comes to life. Burn in a couple of eyes or add fake eyes if you have them, your first piece will be complete.

Be careful with those ears though. I hope this spurs you on as well as the other comments. Good to see you are enjoying yourself.

If your still not sure what it is you could try fish scales, leafs or feathers etc. to practice different textures. Then you will have an original!! there are no rules apart from be safe.
