Hire a ride on. Mow with the collector off on high. Then mow with it on. If very heavy going mow only half width. Once you have got it down use your own mower. Saves flogging your mower on heavy going

Viking 6 Series 4 wheeler , price is right and I have run mine for 3 years now admitly I have put 2 variable pulleys in at £30 each but it works well on tall wet grass . I have tried them all with pictures to show and the Viking 6/7 areally very user friendly.

Strimmer with a blade rather than line will be a lot tidier and get it looking better sooner. You can also scythe it in to rows as you go along.

 

The other issue with long wet grass is the sheer bulk of it, even the mower physically lifts it you'll be emptying the bag every dozen yards or so. Better get the bulk off it now manually and then stay on top of it.

if this is new turf only 2 months old make sure the turf has knitted properly as putting a mower on it could lift the corners !

 

I personally would just strim and rake up then come back a week or 2 later to cut with mower in the hope that it is dryer and will give a better cut but i wouldn't cut it short as it's dead easy to scalp new turf

How wide is the gate? Would you get a narrow ride on through like an as940. It's a brushcutter but it would just do grass short enough.

 

I think it's just over a meter wide.
