We're going in to our fourth winter with our Burley and I really can't fault it in any way. Yes you are right to a degree, people will tend to just recommend what they have, it's the same with anything. But I've been in quite a lot of other houses with stoves since we bought this one and while most of the decent makes are pretty good I honestly don't think they quite match the Burley right across the board.

 

Heat output and efficiency, well it's the best out there with the figures to prove. and when in use you wouldn't doubt them! Ease of lighting, no issues at all. Ease of use, one lever, couldn't be simpler. As for the ashpan, there isn't one! Scoop some out of the bottom of it every month or so. Durability, so far flawless. Flame "picture", yet to see another stove that comes anywhere close, lovely to have in a room. On top of all that, they're sensibly priced, and made in the UK.

 

There is honestly not one area where it gives best to anything else I've seen.

There are loads of great stoves out there and loads of rubbish, the difference between apart from build quality is CONTROLABILITY! That's what scents them apart,

We've just installed a double fronted woodwarm stove, it's a beast and so much more efficient than the old Villager we used to have.

I've used a Jetmaster 5kw for the last four years. Excellent little stove and very controllable.

I have just had installed a 5kw Ekol Crystal, it is DEFRA approved and has a cool base so we did not need to install a mega hearth (just a granite slab on the floorboards) the max log size is 12" so quite small but it runs all night with regular feeding.

We're having a Clearview Vision 500 with external air feed installed in the next couple of weeks. Similar situation to you, quite an open house so not just heating the living room. I can only comment on how easy the one in the showroom seemed to be to control and that we liked the look of it. Also it can take decent size logs (up to 15" I think).

 

They are very expensive, that's definitely a negative about them.

 

I hope you have better luck with stove fitters than we had. Contacted 5, 1 failed to show up 3 times. 1 turned up but then failed to follow up with a price. Another was ok, we just didn't really like any of the stoves they sold. 1 stove fitter I contacted never even got back to me. And the 5th guy is the one we've ended up buying from. He did a proper survey and quotation as well as turning up on time and obviously sold a stove that we liked.
