I carry a small bag of iron pyrite (fools gold) in my first aid pouch on my harness,i swear by it,maybe im just superstitious but i read somewhere its good luck to carry it for people with dangerous jobs.

The one time i was using the rescue harness as my own was getting lolered i got a kiss from a silky, nowt major just a little slash-bled like a bastard though and ive been lucky enough not to have any accidents since.

Some may say this is bollocks etc but it makes me feel a little better knowing its back there.

Any of you carry any good luck charms or have any superstitious rituals?

Nope, it is utter crud but its OK if you want to believe.

You never know when your luck will fail so I rely on planning an preparedness

Seconded. I carry a leatherman squirt at least, which is kind of like a lucky charm I suppose. Like the doctor who performed a tracheotomy on a plane with his swiss army knife classic - could save a life. The squirt coupled with a AAA flashlight on a ring is pretty much minimal daily carry for me anyway. I have a needle and some duct tape in my wallet as well. I couldn't ware a lucky charm anyway, can't stand having anything attached to my extremities or around my neck.

Thought - are tattoos lucky charms? I think that was kind of their purpose in the beginning right?

Yes... Mendl airstreams! If I hadn't had them on my foot would have been proper mangled. I carried on working for a while but as soon as I put my foot in a crotch in the tree I knew it was really damaged. I'll always get airstreams from now on good solid protection all round.

Dunno about the "luck" bit though 🤕
