Pick-up speed limits

Recommended Posts

I attended a speed awareness course in June and they made a point of stressing pick ups were limited to 50 on a single carriageway, 60 on a dual and 70 on the motorway.

By pickup you mean single / double cabs like the Rodeo & not flat back transits?

Can you please tell me who the organiser was so I can contact them?

That is not what the law says.

Cheers

Same numbers but wrong vehicle type you/they are putting the pickup in.

Its a dual purpose vehicle so car speeds apply.

Its under 2040kg unladen & has selectable 2x4 or 4x4

Dual purpose vehicles

A dual purpose vehicle is a vehicle constructed or adapted for the carriage both of passengers and of goods and designed to weigh no more than 2,040 kg when unladen, and is either:

constructed or adapted so that the driving power of the engine is, or can be selected to be, transmitted to all wheels of the vehicle

or

permanently fitted with a rigid roof, at least one row of transverse passenger seats to the rear of the driver’s seat and will have side and rear windows - there must also be a minimum ratio between the size of passenger and stowage areas

I think that might be where the confusion, and my reason for asking arises - dual purpose vehicle <2040kg.

Some pick ups are creeping over the apparent 2040 tripline and therefore potentially seem subject to reduced speeds?

The dual purpose vehicle issue has been rumbling on for ages. They are supposed to be removing it as a sub class as it doesn't really exist as a true vehicle tupe. There are moved to convert our way of thinking of vehicles eg class 1,2,3,4,5&7 (motorbikes, trikes, shall vehicles, private buses and 3.5t vans) over to European m1 n1 etc. That was a couple of years ago so we'll have to see what happens post brexit

The reason the leek site weight varies is that it needs to include all of the vehicle parts usually in use, and there are lots of optional bits that can be bolted into a pickup. Unfortunately you can't just go to a weigh bridge and get a kerb weight as you would need to drain the fuel and coolant and remove all small tools like the jack etc. Kerbside includes a tank of fuel etc so that you could drive to a weighbridge and get out to give a kerb weight.

Something makes me think there's s guests are where you knock 140kg off the kerbside weight but that seems a lot.
