Ranger and Dealer woes.

Yes, dealer conversation today was along those lines, it's plated 3.2 now, but likely to be 3.5 soon. No good it you buy it at 3.2 because it wouldn't apply retrospectively. No difference in chassis apparently, just plated like that - someone dropped a bullock there?

 

I'm not going to worry about lead time to deliver, just rent/lease a filler in the meantime so might well be worth hanging out for a few months and see if the plate weight changes to 3.5

 

Agree, Hilux looks to be at the top of the price range for the like-for-like competition.

 

 

Kevin, the Isuzu D-max which came on sale in about 2012 initially was plated to tow 3 ton (or was it 3.2ton?) they got plated to lug 3.5 ton in about 2013 and the only difference was the towbar was a different part number. This was an Isuzu salesman that told me this at the time.

I keep toying with the idea of a new truck, but threads like this make me realise why i always end up sticking with the 110 pickup. I get that a new truck is going to cost me 20k or so, but if i'm spending that kind of money I want to tow 3.5 ton daily and for it to be able to do so for 170,000 miles and still be doing it in 18 years time like my Landrover still is all whilst costing me b*gger all in repairs. AT the moment I just can't be convinced that any of the current offerings will do so, so I think i will just hold on till neccessity forces change.

 

I hear you! It's opportunity rather than necessity that is pushing change rather than necessitating it! I hate buying and selling, I'm more of a hoarder (you know what you've got and what its + & - points are rather than taking a leap of faith)

 

It seems there's a horror story for every pick-up and it seems like a game of Russian roulette! The one thing I am pretty sure of though... Whichever PU I do choose, I'm sure it won't have the same resale value after the same period as the 110.

Similar conversation with Toyota dealer, no difference in design / manufacture of the vehicle, just rated different for UK.

Friend of mine had his brand new 66 plate ranger delivered last friday. Its already let him down twice and this morning the dealer offered to "hire" him a transit connect. You can imagine how that went down. The top on the back leaks like a sieve and the back door also has a leak when it drizzled with rain on Saturday.

My advice - DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING A NEW FORD RANGER!!

 

I have a brand new ford ranger 4x4 single cab, 16 plate , just driven 3500 miles in it all round france/spain and portugal, never let me down once,nor should it, Ive done 9800 miles in it since march and has been as good as gold, time will tell, I bought it off the back of the previous older 2004 plate which I had from new,well demonstrator, in the 12 yrs I had that ,only problem i had was track rod ends, and a clutch on 100,000 miles, love my ranger, and my old one has been bought locally and still going strong.:001_tt2:
