I think that not allowing people to have their own opinions based on their own personal convictions is very intolerant.

At no point in that (heavily edited) excerpt did Rees Mogg say that he would force his own personal beliefs on someone.

If holding to an opinion that "human life is sacred" is now classified as "extremism" then we're all in deep trouble.

Say what you believe in get lambasted.  JRM

Avoid saying what what you believe in get lambasted. Tim Farron

An individual should have opinions and be free to express them - within the bounds of the law and common decency.

Its not as as if he would ever be in a position to reverse current U.K. Legislation (even if he was PM)

Cant help liking the fact he has an opinion and didn't duck talking about it for the sake of trying to avoid controversy.

Sounds pretty extreme to me.

And to think I was warming to the fella, he's gone down faster than a lead balloon...

Its bad enough I now find he's a practicing christian, but to add insult to injury, he puts dogma above the health of a woman..

He's just killed any chance of a political career as well, what a numpty..

To be fair, that's four people in the entire armed forces (at this moment in time). What may more to the point is that of 71 proscribed organizations, one is National Action, one's Basque and the remainder are almost all Islamic. Only read through quickly, but the list is here  https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/612076/20170503_Proscription.pdf

Do we hear of every arrest that the police make of members of these other groups, or only after a terrorist attack? I don't know, I'm just asking.

In sure there are plenty of goings on that we don't hear about. No harm was meant against the vast majority of people who serve in the armed forces, I have the utmost respect for those.

For me people who through their religious beliefs think it is right and proper that any woman should not be allowed to have an abortion however she became pregnant is an extremist.

If someone got hold of your wife, daughter, mother, aunt and raped them would you think it was right and proper for that lady to be made to give birth to that child?

Nobody is making them do anything.

Right here goes ..... multiculturalism is supposedly where all races religions and creeds etc etc etc integrate and get on regardless of beliefs with respect for each other's beliefs in the same street, village, town, city, country again etc etc now on this thread especially we have people defending this and people opposed to this normally through the immigration argument. Now I'm not saying your extreme eggs in any way (genuinely know your not) but surely being against someone's religious view as you are to moggs is proof multiculturalism doesn't work on a very basic argumentative level yet people oppose matelots views to stop 3rd world immigration!? Now if we allow other religions from the 3rd world to live amongst us do you think you'll agree with their religions and beliefs?

Sharia law is already being practised in the UK is this ok?

Confused.

Absolutely cant believe I have just kind of defended matelot:confused1:

You are correct, no one is being made to do anything.

My point is, if he holds such strong views about abortion what other crack pot views does he hold?

But that's not what he was saying, was it?

Piers Morgan was trying to force him into saying it but he didn't.

Perhaps what he meant was that if he had been raped he would carry his own pregnancy through to full term.  ( notice I didn't fall into the gender non-binary trap there! )

I'm glad he stayed true to himself and was honest regardless of the backlash and possible damage to his career, in my book that takes guts.

If he has crack pot views (your words) based on his religious beliefs what about the crack pot views that come from other religions?

Food for thought, he gave his view but also stated the law wouldn't change and accepted that women can and do have the right to make their own choice.

He gave his view but accepted others, (one could argue he has demonstrated multiculturalism) you and others are claiming he is extreme with crack pot views. (One could argue narrow minded and can't accept multi cultures)

Yes, imagine that, a prime minister who displayed honesty and integrity regardless of his popularity. [emoji15]

It would make a refreshing change from all of the usual spin doctored shapeshifters we've had to get accustomed to.

I've got more chance of piloting the next shuttle to the space station than RM as of becoming PM after that interview.

Ti, read it as you like. RM dodged the question by saying it won't happen in law. What he believes is, no matter how someone gets pregnant they should not have an abortion.

each to their own.
