Crane fed Chipper

if you have the space for 2 machines I have seen one of the larger co. based in southern england using a 2nd machine to feed the chipper this operation has advantages with visability and other logistics, you may have a forwarder or forwarding trailer with crane or 360 with loader , as with all the above if you are using a crane to feed a chipper built for hand feeding be careful! it is easy to put larger material in it than you can lift, extra strain on hopper and leverage as you are tempted to feed the chipper with the crane ie stuff through branchey materia can and will bend things you have a lot more power and leverage with a crane loading + 2nd is what or how do you cope with the stop go lever I suggest it is not the place to have a 3rd party standing to operate or over ride the stop go bar , is it acceptable to disconnect or over ride this? , I have seen this with some of the mid range hiezohacks, make shure you have a method statement and understanding with all on site, having said that I have seen both good and bad practice here and in Germany with large grab fed chippers being loaded by hand! cheers j

i would think very carefully on what you want to do, i know of others (myself included) that have spent a lot of money on make do attempts, and end up spending big money on the right thing. you will have to butcher your chipper to get it to owrk woth a crane, then it leaves you un able to hand feed legally and safely. then feeding disc chippers with a crane will end in tears. i wanted to iliminate staff and haulage so i opted for the roofmount and i wanted a heizo and narva grip, but i couldnt source the work close enough to home and it would of meant borrowing about 100k. if all you want to do is compliment your chipper and you have staff anyway i would get a 3 tonner and put a grab and rotator on it, you could low load it to the job with your tractor and away you go..this way you could set up the tractor and feed it with the digger or at least present it to the lads feeding it, save on the back ache. good luck

If it's for occasional crane feeding a grapple on a small excavator maybe the way to go for you.

I would be very wary of crane feeding a hand charged chipper with a roof mount as you can't see in the feed hopper. Very easy to knacker the motors.

I crane fed a TP230 with a roof mounted Botex 560TL on a Valmet 8000. I did this for 2 weeks 12 hours a day. I wouldn't recommend it mate !

Depending on the size of the contract and whether you want to adapt or invest a tracked chipper with it's on crane might be a viable option.

Usually (well always) factory mounted crane options on chippers are very expensive.

What 3 point crane would you use to feed a farmi ch260? Thinking it wouldspeed thinks up on railway work and motorway jobs

all view's apreciated

thanks

Sorry mate got sucked off topic with my last post.

I'd avoid Botex as I've seen them shear off a 3 point mount.

A farmi would be ideal or if you want to save money hire in a small 360 and buy your own grapple to stick on it.

The Farmi 260 can be refitted with a crane hopper in minutes, and is designed from the factory for crane feeding - but only with the recomended farmi crane.
