I know traditionally they use ash, poplar or alder for the body and maple and rosewood for the neck .

But me being me wants to try something different, so the body will be yew. I'm still undecided what will go with it for the neck maybe something lighter in colour.

They were pine back before the stratocaster was made. Leo Fender started making all of his guitars out of pine. Might be worth a try especially as vintage detail and reproduction is all the rage.
