I personally find using long reach hedgecutters very unnatural. They are good for long reach(hence the name) but for fine topiary work I like to have my hands directly beneath the handles. I wouldn't advice long reach as your sole machine.

Thanks for the info everyone. It doesn't look like I've got the right model of Tanaka strimmer to allow attachment of the hedgetrimmer fitting. Will just buy an Echo or Stihl pole trimmer second hand off ebay, and see how I get on with it

What model are your Tanakas .

ive got husky 327ld split system,short reach hedge cutter and extension pole to turn it into long reach,also have chainsaw,strimmer attachments,powerful bit of kit,not cheap tho,similar money to stihl
