Did you cut through the boiler to convert it like that, then? I have an old oil burning Rayburn sat in my workshop and although I've stripped the innards out, because the water jacket surrounded the combustion chamber, there's no hatch to put logs in. I was thinking of fitting a rocket stove inside with the feed box in the lower oven, leaving me with one oven working should I fancy some impromptu baking...

I found this article but I am not sure if it works with an oil fired Aga

(looking at the article again I see that it is a conversion from anthracite to wood but it may be possible to take out the oil burner and replace with a barrel from the kit but whether you can make a riddle fit and work underneath is anyone's guess!

We are in a similar position having an old five door oil fired Aga which is in good order, but not used.

I think that by the time you have messed about with the fitting kit, even if it works, it will only half work and take a lot of regular feeding through an awkward little hole.

If yours is in any kind of order then it would be better to advertise it on Ebay for a couple of grand which might appeal to some "lifestyle" newcomer to the countryside, and spend the money on a really efficient Morso, Jotul or Clearview.

A new five door oil fired Aga is over ten grand and even a reconditioned one is five grand and with the low oil price I think it is a good time to sell.

I think that is what I shall try and do.

Indeed Billhook, a very valid point, but SM (Senior Managment) has her notions:thumbup: and while she continuies to keep my belly well filled and testicles well-empty, I shall attempt to humour her.

Does she prefer a front loader or a top loader?

Thats not a normal Aga.

Aga's have no door on the firebox.

The one I referred to is an Aga and you can see from the pic it would not easily convert to logs, hence my earlier post.

With the cost of annual maintenance (obligatory by trained aga technicians because of our internal and external audits) plus the fact the wicks quickly clogged up on the kerosene it shared with an oil boiler it had already become uneconomic even before we got gas.

Shame about the latter as it sidelined the 150kW woodchip boiler and the bosky never got installed.
