When will my cherry blossom?

Question

I've planted an avenue of 14 wild cherry down the drive and although they're all about 10' high (2 years old!) they're showing no signs of producing any blooms. A small almond I planted has beautiful blossom despite being about 4' tall.

Is it an age thing or do they have gender?

Two year old cherries will flower.

We grow plenty of them and if they have been grafted or budded , the wood that is used for working them will often be from mature trees , so the theory is that they will already be mature.

Quite often the buds we put on will flower before growing.

Agreed. Apples, pears & cherries will bloom early in life especially when grafted. If it was for fruit production it would be advantageous to deblossom them in the formative years. That is remove their sex organs before they get fruity ideas when young. Then when they have developed in to capable adults they can cope with the demands of the fruit better.

I would expect flowers on most nursery produced stock before 6ft.
