From the seed to the lathe.

Someone planted this Yew 100 plus years ago.

Laetiporus and a car park extension resulted in me topping it in 2005.

Gave a few pieces of the dismantled crown to a turner friend of mine a couple of years ago.

Yesterday I presented this Vase from the same tree, to Aldeman Ian Luder, The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of the City of London.

(the 681st)

He was taking a tour of my site and stopped off for a gander where we were reducing a declining Beech.

A few parts that connect toward the history of a single Tree.

I can only dance when I'm blind drunk.. :001_smile:

I have some Yew that I have in three foot lengths and I have had them stood on end for 12 months undercover.

I also have a meaty chunk about 14" across and 18" long I want to get something good out of but dont know how long to leave it

Pretty difficult to fully dry a piece of wood that diameter Dean... I find on larger pieces like this as they dry you just get too much tension developing in them and they split and twist... I may be wrong but woodturners often seem to 'rough turn' larger pieces of timber, then let them dry before finishing them......
