Who offers a 'cooling off' period?

Maybe I'm behind the times with all the management jargon these days.

I recently had a Tree Maintenance flyer through my door.

Whilst I admire the effort people put in to these things I found myself wondering if it's just me being a cynical old fart or what??

Apert from offering Topping and Crowning as main services it also offered

a 'cooling off period if required'

I just can't see how that works and how it would make a potential customer think...'These are the guys for me'

It makes as much sense as a second-hand coffin I once saw in a junk shop!

Are we falling behind the times?:confused1:

I think we are OK because we don't "cold call".

If you send out flyers you may need to be cautious.

With most of our jobs its several weeks between quoting and carrying out the work, but sometimes neighbours of where we are working come out and ask for work doing, if the quote is accepted we may carry out the work there and then. I think because have approached us we are OK??

I have no idea.

I'm usually too busy marching them off down the post office.

I had an onsite visit from a trading standards officer who was basically there to check we weren't Cowboys ripping people off, one of the things she mentioned was whether the we had written t's and c's and that they included a cooling off period. She left after I explained the job was quoted for a couple of months previously she left seemingly happy only to return 15 or so minutes later with a copy of their recommended t's +c's for us to look at including the cooling off period.

Isn't cooling off period part of distance selling regs?

The only one doing distance selling is Mark. Putting distance between himself and the unsuspecting customer once he's grabbed the money from the cashpoint 😂

Too right!

I always insist on payment up front as well.

i offer a cooling off period on all my quotes after seeking advice form solicitor, as if you get a customer who knows the law they can refuse to pay and there wont be much you can do about it, if there was not a 7 day cooling off period from accepting the quote and getting the work done . Even if a customer telephones you and asks you round for a quote it is still classed under the doorstep trading regulations.
