The time has finally come

Recommended Posts

i find single rope a bit odd as i know it makes sense and is better in many ways but just seem to prefer the feel of drt, so mainly use that so then if i do use srt it feels even stranger!! using a lockjack and rope wrench so probably not the best, did try the bulldog bone and that seemed pretty good but cant justify more gear :(

will follow this thread and try and get back into srt.

Little bit off topic. But every time I go and climb for my mate he bangs on about how good srt is. Although he only uses it to access the tree and then swaps to ddrt. Any way he set a Lin in an oak tree I had to reduce back from a building I pulled my rope through and was going to footlock up the 40ft. He gave me a foot assender and an assender on a bit of elastic clipped over my shoulder clipped my zig zag to my chest and up I went. Wow! How easy. This is the way forward, easy long ascents and when tou get there work ddrt

The way I see it too many folk get mixed up in the either/or thing.

If SRT helps me on a job I use it, if it doesn't I don't.

Nothing wrong with a bit of bisexuality.

Couldn't agree more. Well except the bisexuality bit unless you mean two lasses and me then I'm all for it.

The oak this week srt as it would of been a pita on drt. Leyland Hedge reduction again srt made my life a lot easier. 3 failed conifers drt in the conifer next to it made sense. And the same with a poplar re pollard. Roped into the birch behind and drt'd the living day lights out of it. The walnut was srt as I would of literally cried if id of done that drt.

Just my week of climbing styles.

Also I've found 11.7 slips about an inch or so if you load it with a slight jolt (bdb)

I tried some 11mm Sterling HTP today. I knew straight away it was a no no for the BDB. So I put my RR on there. All seemed fine till I loaded the system.

It wouldn't even hold me still let alone stop me after a decent.

Strange as it is the same diameter as the Kernmaster and that works really well on the Runner.

the lever can be reversed to make a tighter fit for the smaller diameter ropes. Sterling flattens out so much that it is hard to get it to run right. I have noticed that diameter has less to do with function than construction. the tighter rounder ropes seem to run better. the the Sterling, if you go over a section a few times it gets so flat like a ribbon

I think I could get it to work just I can't be chuffed adjusting the bolt/bollard for different roles.

As a comparison I find the sterling much harder and firmer than the Kernmanster, yet the Kern works perfectly in the RR. Where as the sterling doesn't work at all.

This would be the opposite to your comment.

Even though I have spent most of my 47 year climbing career on DdRT, I now find it so annoying and slow, I only use it occasionally. The simple task of taking up slack becomes slow and cumbersome. DdRT is great for a toss and advance climb or crane work due to easy rope retrieval. But even choking a stem on removals is easier with SRT.

So I'm having a hard time understanding Steve's apparent total lack of enjoyment in it's use.
