Will be more than £150 when you add a 4ft bar on ?

Would choose the 661 every time , there is not barely any trees in the country that a 36" bar would not deal with if your confident in double and bore cutting when felling ,the chain speed is a lot faster and it weighs less.

What he said.

What he said. I've got both (well 660) and we use it all the time the 880 hardly ever goes out.

660 7.3 kg and 5.2kW

661 7.4 kg and 5.4kW

More power and better power to weight ratio for the 661.

That's quite a bit !Another important point is the anti vibes on the 661 will be vastly superior to both the 880 and 660 and it will have a cleaner burning engine with reduced emissions for you to suck in all day.

I've got 660 ,880,084 we do hard wood thinning on several local estates to be honest the 660 gets all the work, the bigger saws are good for occasional massive beech trees in the manor gardens but to top out or limb off a tree they are too heavy in a harness. The 660 is capable of Ariel work and large felling, also good for trimming out big crowns,I mainly use it with a 25 inch bar. The 88 stays in the shed most of the time, its good on the alaskan mill though because it has plenty of power, but it is a heavy clumsy lump !

That's as near to a perfect summary as you could hope to get!

Is it noticeable?

Depends on your sharpening and maintenance, 0.2 kW can easily be lost with a dull chain and clogged air filter.

I run 2 660, both slightly modded, so probably on a par with a 661 power wise, but I'll have no hesitation trading them in for 661 when the time comes. I tend to avoid the first batches of any new model, but once the beta testing on paying users is complete the new models are at least as good as the old ones. My 201TCM is absolutely fine, but the early 201 were dogs.

Yeah see I have an early model 201 and a 261 which prompted me to get the 66 before they wrecked it. But it's good to know that they are good, if I need to replace it at any point.

I will have to look in to the 201tcm as my 201 is alright but just doesn't seem to be up to cutting any decent chogs down.

Thanks for the advice

If you intend doing any milling in future, get the 880. If it's never going to mill, get the 661 - less initial cost, (as you say £150) less weight, lower running costs. And still plenty of power for most job. What the 880 does have in its side, is tried a test reliability, with not much to go wrong.
