Double line pull

Hi guys,

 

We have an alpine with farmi 351 skidding winch. We have done plenty re-directs etc but have never needed a double line pull (touch wood). No doubt the day will come when we do and that's why I'm curious where you anchor the end of your rope. Does anyone anchor their line back to the winch? Thought about using the bottom pulley as an attachment point. Any suggestions, can't find anything on the search function.

A very valid point raised recently about my Tajfun winch, but I actually had appropriate eyes incorporated into the Kubota's own winch mount for doubling back it's recovery winch and would work perfectly for the Tajfun if required too.

 

The Tajfun has a removable towing eye but only rated at 750kg, so of little use.

 

I did think of having something appropriate fitted.

Last time I had to do a double line pull with the big farmi winch I ended up wrapping a Big chain around the whole but plate and fetch the cable end back to that which worked really well.

I have seen that done before but it was on a triple line pull trying to extract a tractor with a 6t winch in a bog. It just pulled trees over...

I was told by some experienced old boy recovery chaps with a big (10 tonne? More possibly?) winch built into the back of a Major to always secure a double line to another anchor (big tree stump etc). You risk damaging the winch and carrier if not apparently.

I would go for another anchor, be it a tree( you can link trees together if shallow rooted), or vehicle and you can adjust your positioning to allow for pull in the direction needed

Another anchor for sure if possible. Attach to the tractor and you double the load on the plate/spades.

I think most have already taken it as read that if a suitable tree or other machine etc were available then that would be used, but if you simply want to double back to the winch there's none I've seen that provide a suitable attachment point?

 

The idea of using a a chain or sling around the butt plate is a perfect solution, but I did wonder if simply a slot in the butt plate that allows attachment back to the tractor pick-up hitch may be a real world solution?

 

Most double line pull situations would only turn messy once people decide to start chaining the front of the winch tractor to trees or more equipment, as the simple fact is if it's not moving it without resorting to such actions probably time for a rethink?

On my old Igland I had welded an attachment for the purpose, as Eddie says the Tajfun one we have now is only rated to 750, although I suspect that is down to towing regulations..

 

Another tree adjacent to the tractor is my advice...

My old fransgard doesn't have a butt plate, just a leg on each side so I can go back to the pick up hitch on the tractor, running the cable under the winch and in between the legs.
