Recovery winch

Anyone out there reccommend a quality recovery winch for a 2003 Toyota Hilux? I'm looking for something with a capacity of around 3,500kg's preferably with a quick release bracket so i could mount it on the tow ball at the rear with an adaptor if needed. Thanks.

i bin tinkin' along the same lines as yew but i'd like to be able to swap it atween me transit and 4be4 pickup. reckon a portable, petrol powered capstan winch would be more useful to me though.

Just remember if your using a Powerful winch that's portable to use on the rear tow bar then you will need to run Anderson cables from battery to rear to make portable connection if you want a proper job .

We have one of these, its a very handy tool and way more versatile than a permanent mount. you can carry it into a back garden and a stout rigging line is all you need, it can save loads of time being able to fell trees that you would otherwise have to dismantle. handy fro recovery too if needed.... A decent snatch block for re-directs or doubling the pull is a good buy too.

Thanks for the feed back lads, sorry about the late reply but I've been up the walls of late. Ideally a fixed recovery winch on the front and a PWC capstan to mount on the rear if needed. It will have to be one or the other as I can't afford both at the moment. I'm leaning toward the capstan as it's more versatile. Thanks lads.

Top tip. So you mean an Anderson plug on the winch and Anderson socket/booster cables on the battery side?

Quick release Anderson sockets so you can use at front or back or use winch on another Truck , also you can get jump leads with Anderson sockets too .It won't be cheap running Anderson type cable full length of truck though ,a lot of folk seem to think the Trailer socket is ample But far from it.
