A couple of years ago my Dad had 3 , maybe 4 ambulance visits mainly due to brandy and falling . At the time I suggested ( strongly ) that maybe drinking brandy was not a good idea . In short he agreed and for the last 2 yeas he has drunk only red wine with his meal and is fine doing that . Yesterday a mate of his took him out to lunch and gave him a brandy ( or 2 ) the result is he fell and broke his leg . Now apart from all the usual feelings for my Dad and the kindness of his mate I am also ticking that they have offered him some brandy after all this time . At 91 he is going to struggle to heal and walk again and it was avoidable and unnecessary . Tricky . What do you think .

One of those things mate. I'm sure (as I can be) that your dads mates didn't think for one minute that the silly old bugger would go and fall over.

Hope ya dad fixes soon.:001_smile:

Hi Stubby

Well it could have been worse, you're lucky to have your father live to 91 so you look after him & if he enjoys the odd glass now and again thats fine.

I know were you are coming from saying the odd glass is fine but really its not . He is fragile and frail to say the least and only has to read the frigging label and he is over . Red wine is fine . Brandy is a disaster .

Stubby it shouldn't have happened but it's water under the bridge, no point getting stressed over it.

The thing is when my 92 year old mother fell out of bed and broke here thigh bone she simply could not be persuaded to get up or walk again. Her mind deteriorated badly and she was eventually killed several months later from complications from a bed sore. So IMO you have to get him up and moving once the bone is set and not give in to protestations to leave him alone.

Subject to medical advice of course

If I make it to 92 I will have a brandy if I want one and will stay in bed if I want to, even if either are bad for me.

I certainly won't thank anybody for dragging me out of bed whether it's good for me or not.

Terribly sorry you lost your mother openspaceman and very sorry to hear about your Dad Stubby. Look after him :)
