I would say so altho aspen folks would think their fuel better; differing reports on the beans it gives tho...

 

First thing i am an Aspen dealer , did a few random tests last year with a 576xp non autotune , i wont sell something i have not used myself . saw sounded different on Aspen so i checked rpm readings at wot , 576 would drift into the limiter all the time on pump fuel but on Aspen it would sit at 13200 same H settings , saw felt good in the cut on both fuels ..

I've just received a load of bedtime reading from the Oil company whose oil I am a dealer for.

 

I knew in the back of my mind that JASO FD spec was supposed to be higher performance than FC but apparently not necessarily...

 

It comes down to basestocks vs additives again... and not just 1-2-3 as in Mineral-Semi Synthetic-Fully Synthetic.

 

Wiki and BITOG will rightly tell you that FD is the same as FC with even higher detergency.

 

Stihl HP Mineral (Red) for instance is JASO FB but ISO-L-EGD; talk about confusing; ISO-EGD is the roughly equivilent grade to JASO FD but the tests are different; some argue that one is more concerned with lubricity and heat and another ash content and detergency... Wierdly the next oils up Stihls pecking order (HP Super and Ultra) are both FD and EGD but semi and full synthetic respectively. I would expect Ultra to outperform Super despite the same ratings. Likewise Echo Power-blend is FD but "synthetic blend" whatever that means. Dolmar is certainly FD but Shavey will have to confirm whether it's semi or full syn.

 

Anyway, some FC oils don't need to be FD certified since they have a superior basestock and therefore don't need the (FD) detergents; not all synthetics are the same remember :sneaky2:

 

Here are some photos of the dolmar 2-stroke oils fully synthetic and semi synthetic

 

Full synthetic is API TC , JASO FD ISO-L-EGD

Semi synthetic is API TC , JASO FD ISO-L-EGD

And it's global GD ok

There is little doubt that Aspen Alkylate fuel is better than pump petrol, it is after all, a virtually pure fuel whereas petrol is in all honesty pretty crap.

 

But this thread is really about the oils rather than the fuel, so the question would be " is Redline 2 stroke better than Aspens FRT oil?"

 

I reckon it would be very difficult to prove either way, but Aspen's FRT has been very carefully developed to meet all the requirements of Husqvarna and Stihl in their Strato charged engines as well as 4 mix, both of which have exacting requirements in their need of a low ash oil.

 

But most engine failures are not down to the quality of the oil, but rather the quality of the fuel. Fresh fuels from different suppliers can vary considerably in their quality, but it is when they age that the real problems start.

 

Aspen is high quality when fresh, and does not change at all with age, so combine this fuel with an excellent oil and you have the very best fuel available, but admittedly, at a cost.

 

Each to their own.

I think Aspen 4 with RL 2T added would be my dream option but hellish expensive; eh Stubby? :biggrin:

 

I guess pump fuel somewhat spoils the point of a high end UCL whereas aspen et al might imrove it.

 

What's the flame front behaviour like between gasoline and alkylyte? Alcohol for instance burns "dry"...

 

Seems ron and mon favour alky but Vp is lower...
