Hi BOB how does it pull it BOB thanks Jon

Well Jon I thought it was good because it can pull a 3.5ton trailer up Stag Hill at 50mph but the other day I was overtaken going up there by an Isuzu kingcab pickup truck, it was pulling a triaxle trailer with a 3ton dumper on it and it was doing at least 70mph :blushing:So compared to one of those its cr@p

I pull my 2.8ton Takeuchi with my 300tdi hicap allt the time- i,m on Dartmoor and it does puff going up the hills- but slow and steady wins the race- interstingly i have had very few breakdowns as a result and have had this digger for a few years now. I usually have around 300-500kg of buckets and attachments in the pickup bed- i find this provides usefull ballast and helps traction if it gets a bit gritty or wet leaves etc.

I would crack on if i were you - they won't pull it fast but are more than cappable of doing so but good trailer brakes are a must.

Thanks for the replies and putting my mind at rest.

I can continue my hunt for a digger now!

Hi MATT just talking to my LAND ROVER KINGS DOWN HERE they said you're never get code is to keep the engine HEAT DOWN you will have to put the heater on also give plenty of time of getting to where you wanna go they did laugh when they said about pulling 3500kgs with the 300tdi but there running 225 HP plus TD5 thanks Jon

My colleague runs a TD5 discovery- it doesn't pull my digger any better than my 300tdi. Its not re-mapped though.

The beauty of the landrover is at least you can travel on the road in Low box without the diffs being locked- youy will certainly need it for hill starts!

Hi Matthew your right about getting in low box but TD5 are REMAPED high thanks Jon

I think the defender has a slightly lower ratio transfer box than the discovery so makes it better for towing. Good set of rear poly bushes and well serviced engine and brakes you will get by. We used to run 300 tdi and Amazon the later was the mutts for pulling 3500 kg with ease but it's a lot of car to live with on a daily basis especially around town at 14 mpg solo.
