Sweet bay is fast growing and coppices well in the south, may not be hardy above Watford

I have one that the frost killed off a few years back, it was -15 though!

It grew back from suckers and is as big as ever again. Normal winters might scorch a few of the young shoots off but I’d say it was hardy enough to grow up here. Well North of Watford.

I had a well known Kent grower telling me it would be impossible to grow Cox apples this far north and they’d never survive. I’ve got acres of them and have had for 50 years or more. It’s not quite the frozen wasteland it’s made out to be.

The first 2 shots are from summer 19, consisting of birch/rowan lenghts dragged to ride side for later collection. In shot 3, I'm back on location (winter 20) ringing up and hauling out to processing area in open ended crates, and then splitting and drying. Also included are the nice lake side views beside my processing area.

That’s shocking ! how can you get 175 bags ( i guess bulk bags emoji6.png) out of that lot and retain your sanity! it must have taken days and days ? fair play GDH emoji106.png

Haha, it was 4 days but only short ones because the owner was preparing stuff in the mornings, I don't think I could have taken much more. I was fed up of finding new ways to get bent bits stuck in the machine by the end of it. ?

175 bags for that pile, in 4 short ish days seems good going! How many hours in total do you reckon you did? And was it for another firewood merchant or for someone for private use?

Probably 25 hours of processing. It was for private use, he had spent a winter taking lower branches off all his trees and thought it would last him for years as firewood so he processed it all.
