It's a ryetec 40ton, will do 4ft length and diameter. It's got hydraulic flaps to hold the log and hydraulic splitter height. Was about 16k, probably a fair bit more now.

 

I slightly prefer the deutz but they're not designed for reverse drive and forestry guarding so we got the valtra for the log trailer. We've still got 2 deutz though (a 6215 and an older 120).

Only as a last resort if we get too much sell as billets. Since we got the 480 the oversized logs are a smaller percentage so we can sell them all but the wood we're buying in now could change that.

So is it coming in over 480 diameter? If so processing that must kill production output.

 

Fortunately I have been cultivating our suppliers for sub 350mm for a long time now, so when we change to the 480 I can see us using a saw very much at all - looking forward to that and 12 way splitting.

 

I will be taking your advice and getting the 16 way also, as it always seems easy to get oversize soft.

 

Got offered 50 tonnes bone dry Larch last year all gun barrel straight, but turned it away as it was all over 350mm but just under 480mm, so would have been perfect for the Tajfun - imagine the output on 16 way !

We're getting a fair bit by agreeing to take the whole lot from jobs, it's easier for the contractors but a bit more work for us. It's a struggle to lift some of the stuff onto the log trailer.

 

I wish I could cut more softwood, last time I had an order for 18inch lengths and putting it through the 12way on my own I was doing a ton every 6 minutes.

Great day yesterday. Didn't get to site until late but cleared a whole wagon load of softwood by 18.00. Customer very happy.

 

Not all recent jobs have been so nice though. Cutting up some orrible rotten carp last week and sticks for someone the week before. The sticks were down to finger size! Jobs like those I just have to remember I get paid by the hour and the customer is alway right.

How comes the log deck is on an axle? Do you go out contracting?
