How big a ring does the fiskars cope with? My bog standard splitting axe is useless over 12” really. Wouldn’t mind splitting some oversize by hand if it was doable and save buying a vertical splitter?

In length or width?

Its how long is a piece of string really!

I will split any width ring with my x27 and up to 2ft long if the timber allows.

The x27 and x21 are so, so much better than any other axes or mauls I've ever had.

10” long max. 16-20” diameter mostly.

No problem whatsoever then!

You can either go"round the clock" taking the edges off or I quite like to go straight across the middle so I end up with sections the width of the ring by about 8 inches. When I have a few of these I switch to the x21, one handed and fly through these bits making brilliant, regular logs.If the timber allows, obviously!

It arrived today, works so much better than the old maul. Still not perfect on knotty rings but I can easily work round those parts of the ring and stick them in the processor later.

Took me a few swings to half a 20” sycamore ring and then takes no effort to split the rest when it has somewhere to move to. Probably faster than a hydraulic splitter at that point actually!

Certainly got me warmed up too! [emoji106]

Done 120 cube for next season for us and getting busy cutting for others at the moment. Did a complete lorry load (18T) of awkward oak in the peeing rain yesterday of long logs for biomass so speeds things along. Best thing about the day was the loader the guys had which was a Gehl 340. Know I am hankering after one as it was the perfect machine for the job.
