Unbeatable, rugged, simple & if its a smaller one, fairly easily carried. We use an old 1600 which is enough for us but there are far heavier. Someone more knowledgeable will no doubt be along to tell you the exact capacities. Cost us about £200 inc 20 mtrs of cable off ebay. I think the cable has to be exactly the right dia/type to ensure the mechanism doesn't fail.

I picked up a Tirfor TU16 off eBay recently for £140 ....it was ex Speedy Hire. Works great.

It came with a 30m rope which is hard work to coil up so I'm looking for a 10m one.

cheers, steve

Heavy horrible amazing pieces of kit, used mine today in anger, my new Groundie is now sitting at home sore and knackered after popping his tirfor cherry!

Get a 5 ton 1 and double up all your strops, don't mess about becausenthenweakest link will not be the tirfor!

We have the biggest Tirfor the TU32 ...heavy duty version , which has no shear pins fitted :001_smile: This is ace for a mammoth pull although day to day use the smaller 1600kg Tirfor is a winner . Our little diamond lives in the van .
