I cant make my mind up on what to do with this ash.Its on my dads land but its near neighbours house the neighbour wants more light into his garden and dosent care what the tree looks like.My dad dosent want to lose the tree but wants something doing to it to keep the peace as they do a lot for them.i cant really reduce it as thers no sutible growth points as the neighbour wants 20ft of it.so I didnt know to either vetranise it pollard then repollard every 3-5 years or just fell and be done with it.

If one of the options is fell it and be done, why not pollard it right back to the trunk almost?

Leave one branch to act as a lung and cut that off when the tree gets going again.

Can look a bit of a bollox but will be a nice looking tree again soon enough. Nature has done a few like that at my place (blown big limbs off) and they grow back again.

Keeps the tree and neighbours are happy.

The house is literally just out of shot next to the road its my rubbish photography skills so do apologise.it is a nice tree would be a shame to lose it.

A nice reduction is not happening, a top and lop will look awful, so be brutal and make it into a pollard, and keep on top of it. job jobed

If it must be cut, this sounds the best option to me.:001_smile::001_smile:

Agree with this also. If he's dead set on keeping the neighbours happy I don't see a viable alternative really.
