Esso Supreme which according to the web is Ethanol free except for Devon and Cornwall - very strange !!!!!!

I am not trying to be argumentative here, but I do believe that there is no E0 fuel available at the pumps any longer, even Esso Supreme.

I have googled this time and time again and can find no evidence that any fuel is ethanol free, but if anyone can link me any proof I would be grateful.

I understand that fuel companies are actually penalised for every litre of fuel they sell without ethanol, so it is really not in their interest to provide E0.

Sadly, fuel pumps are not required by law to display if the carry ethanol unless the content exceeds 10% which none do at present (or none admit to).

When the change to unleaded was in progress the car I had ran like a bag of nails till I changed the spark retard valve in the vacuum pipe to the distributor and retarded the static timing another 4°.

Same with wife's mgb, we ran it on 101 octane when it was new, pinks like hell now the few times it gets driven.

You need to move the distributor to change the ignition timing, and it will be fine.

I've played with this thing for 43 years and it's a balance between deadening the engine and risking the pinking, driving style can avoid much of it. I really should have the head off, reflow it and fit hardened inserts but it hardly ever gets driven, no value other than sentiment.
