The E.U. is in a mad panic because their controls are very lax; just trying to bring in a ban on deactivated "assault" rifles because these atrocities in Paris have been conducted using recommissioned dodgy deactivated weapons coming from Eastern Europe tripped across the continent no problem now there is free movement. They are trying to push through a ban to include the U.K. even though our standards of deactivation are probably the toughest in the world and anything officially certified deactivated here is most unlikely to be made useable.

Meanwhile unlawful gun ownership in the U.K. is rife; makes anybody talking about legal gun ownership being a problem look most ridiculous.

It is often said that there is no gun crime problem in Switzerland where gun ownership is mandatory for adult men; I'm not sure how correct that really is!

Good post Kevin. Only thing I'd add is that during Mrs Egg's application the licensing officer also spoke with Mr Egg so possibly a good example of the law and process working well... Ie on paper Mr Egg not fit and proper to hold in his own right but firearms officer saw no reason that Mrs E's application should be refused. If Mr E was a bonafide nut job (surely worthy of another thread in own right ;) then I'm sure situation would be different.

Long-winded but hope what I mean is clear

Worth another thread in its own right!

I'll beg your pardon sir:sneaky2::biggrin:

Apart from pest control & for sports... then it's a definite no from me.

You only have to look at the damage done in the USA as an example of why we shouldn't have more guns available.

cheers, Steve

I'll give you most of that. But in the real world I would imagine that most people's spouse would know where the keys to the gun cabinet are kept. Not that I know where Mrs Egg keeps her key mind.

I beg to differ. Anyone that respects the conditions of holding a licence (my self included) wouldn't allow anyone else to know the location of the keys to their guns. My Mrs wonders why I won't let her know as she says it doesn't matter but in real terms it does, the licence was acquired under those conditions and that's how it'll be kept. Personally I don't care if your the queen, you'll not find out where they are kept. When the firearms officer came to check my cabinet upon renewal he passed comment that most people don't request them to leave if they might see the location of the keys after i asked him to leave the room the keys were kept in so I could retrieve them. If you have a licence then they are your guns and your responsibility there for only you should have access to them

What licence is this?

By asking someone to leave the room you have as good as told them where about the keys are.

So the law says you can't trust your Mrs!

If you can't trust your Mrs, who can you trust?

The law I suppose😒

Your licence clearly states only you can know where your keys are. It's pretty black and white really. I'm not saying I don't trust the Mrs but that's just he conditions of the licence and I don't intend breaking them
