Bamboo??

I have read about this and heard of real world experience in uk and Zealand. But never done it myself.

Bamboo is in two general forms, creeping or clump forming. The clump forms are easier to deal with as they don't repropagate like the creeping so easily.

Dig the clump type out which is hard going by hand and any suckers that may reappear destroy as they come. Digger will be much better if you can get one in.

Bamboo stores its energy in the canes. So the more you destroy the growth the energy supplies are depleted. This leads to the plants demise eventually.

I could've used Latin and official bamboo speak here but imagine we are talking lay mans practical terms here.

If you are just wanting to suppress it. Just chop it down, fire it or whatever. Eventually it will die.

Interestingly many types of bamboos of the same variety flower all at once worldwide for a short while. Maybe a couple of seasons. Then die of the exhaustion, but this can be every few decades. A long wait but it would be annoying if you did all the hard work and they were due to self suicide shortly.

I'm a big fan of the ornamental bamboo and have planted many varieties over the years but they MUST be planted in the right place as sooner or later they take over and get very large and strong root systems ( rhizomes ) I've found the best way to get rid of them is to simply cut every culm down prior to spring, wait until the new culms appear and do the same again. If you don't plan to plant anything in its place, leave the roots to eventually rot away, otherwise a digger is the only way if the bamboo was of any real size. A simple 1.5 tonne may not be man enough for the job!
