Jon,

As a governor at a local school you would be surprised how little money some people have or are willing to pass to the school. It is hard enough to get parents to pay for school dinners and school trips (both educational and year end fun trips) never mind what would be seen as a luxury. An awful lot of school fund raising through Christmas fairs etc goes back to the general running and upkeep of the school.

Hi, agree entirely.

I was on the fathers committee at KES Bath for many years & stayed on after our son left as numbers were thin on the ground, we also found putting on events: summer fair & Christmas ball were pretty good - shame your funds get sucked back into school budget.

Anyway, I dont think people who dont have children realise the expense involved.

& they eat like locusts

Why not suggest to make it a specific fund raising effort for the school Jon, via the PTA?

This way donors could put in what they want or can afford, while other parents who are cash poor could help via donating time for their part, for example by seeking external sponsorship etc.

Its an honourable project Jon, it just has to be inclusive for all to be able to contribute in ways that they are able - but not financially compulsory.

Tbh I wouldn't dare suggest it to anyone especially if your not going to put the first £500 in.

What do they need a mini bus for anyway and why does it need be brand new? Are you selling one?:001_smile:

Hi MESTERH has to be safe mate and very low running costs to as with the brand-new one you get three years warranty thanks John

Hi BEARS I think it may have come across a bad idea but if no one couldn't afford a fiver what's the £5 to put in the pot that's madness can't afford a fiver to joke thanks John

Does the school even want or need a minibus?

What happens when 19 students need to go on a trip but its only an 18 seater?

For the price of a new minibus, the school could probably hire the perfect vehicle for the odd day a term they actually need it for 20 years and slip the agro of upkeep, insurance, driver training etc.

Nobel idea Jon but :lol::laugh1::blink::bird::banghead:
