Reasons for non payment.

Never had this problem before so count myself lucky but got my first non payer. Sent several reminders by email, post and phone messages. Not had any form of reply to anything but know they are still about due to facebook posts. Would like to think there is some innocent reason as we have have always got on but it don't look good.

Any wise words before I unleash my legally trained mrs on them?

If you gone down email/phone route already then go round his / her house of an evening or weekend when they more likely to be there and ask (very politely) is there a problem with payment .... if so what is it?

It's not exactly next door and frankly I don't like the idea of a confrontation think Ian is probably right.

Sorry to hear that. Stress........ hope it all comes right soon.

No stress. It's only a day's work and the mrs can't wait to get this sorted through legal means. Just a shame that a chap I have worked for several times whom I thought was OK decides he doesn't need to bother paying me. I count my blessing as this is a first and for a small sum. Have read of some horrors in these pages over the years.

Well, you have a higher stress-threshold than me then! :thumbup1: That kind of thing does my head in.....

Rather have a straight up confrontation any day with a known bollocks than be in a quandary with a friend....

I sent an email to a non-payer telling them that I will be traveling to Jersey and wished to book a table at their restaurant for my lawyer and I and so may as well collect the outstanding lucre at the same time.

(I do actually have a company and financial lawyer as a friend on Jersey)

Worked and last week accounts recieved the cheque.

Never good - hope you get the cash back. I know one contractor who got shafted out of a good few thousand quid by an organisation that decided they weren't going to pay him. It went to court in the end. Shameful, as with anyone who refuses to pay. Unless the service is dire and there is justification, pay.

My brother in law has a timber yard and a builder ran up a £22000 account and decided it would be a good idea not to pay!!

Many months and much money spent the guy is paying £120 a month so it will only take 20 years plus to pay it off!
