Nope, tried this tack on loads of people, though not all..

Pick an choose see, if they look decent an genuine sorts, but you can tell they don't want to get ripped, then I roll out the "if your not happy, don't pay" card..

People want to trust you see, just give em a reason to do that..

Wouldnt work in scotland mate, were tight arsed up here, the meer mention of a freebie would have them drooling, they would find fault in the job to justify non payment.Ive seen it happen.

Wouldn't happen in Suffolk either, where we're all rolling in money.

Getting back on topic, you are too slow and planning to work inefficiently. You won't win many jobs against normal or good tree firms if you base your pricing on one man working alone with no kit.

Another thing to bear in mind is that customers can smell desperation, you need to go in confident. Even if you have no work on you want to portray the image that you're not scratching around and desperate for this one job or they'll wonder why

waht about a battered newish truck??? just throwing it out there...

A battered newish truck suggests that the customers going to pay through the nose for a rough job, because

1)you have a newish truck = you make a lot of money

2) it's battered = I make so much money I don't care

3) you make so much money you run a battered truck, I don't care about my truck, so what makes you think I care about your garden/trees etc:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I also threw in a compliment at the end for you as I didn't want to come across too confrontational :)

Thanks I'm not trying to be confrontational either. That's the bad thing about me writing on forums I can come across a bit blunt!!

I can see why a van not a Range Rover works better though. 👍
