Anyway thank God for the Falkland islands who are going to secure future oil reserves for our kids and grand children. I would like to wish all our mates in France my deeper sympathy and I hope you are all safe

Have you been there or met any islanders? Granted, you can form a view on the geography, population, industrial output etc online, but it's not quite enough to form a view really (just my opinion.)

 

Personally, I'd rather like to go back and stay one day. It has that effect as quite a few visitors (from both distant and recent history) have discovered.

 

It's not really enough to consider those islands, in isolation, and noted that HK was a fundamentally different (lease) arrangement, it's not just the FIs that were at stake in '82 but also Gibraltar, Cyprus, Diego Garcio, Ascention Islands, South Georgia. So it was a slightly bigger game than just the FIs.

Thanks Richie. I had a phone call from my cousin in Yeovil today. Her grandson's friend was at the concert with his dad who was working as a sound engineer at the show. He invited his son to go with him thinking it would be great experience. Wonder what he thinks now, poor sod. This will live with them both forever. Luckily they are back home safely. Luckier than the poor devils who won't be going home again. RIP.

And no I haven't had the luxury of visiting the Falklands, why would I?...

 

one of my friends went there shortly after the conflict was over, never tires of telling people that..
