Spotted this today whilst on a quote. Just intrigued what it is as didn't recognise it. Bit of a dull day so not the best photos and sorry about the head tilt

Where was it, it looks like it wouldn't stand the cold?

Yes the N.Z Kowhai tree! They are hardier than you'd imagine, we get -5c here and they dont mind it at all, I'd imagine they'd take colder than that

 

 

Plenty colder. It's the wind that seems to get them but they grow all around the shores of Lake Taupo.
