Stihl twist caps 😡😡😡!!!!!

Far better than the old screw types which on certain machines seemed to self tighten.

 

A little tip is to push the cap in before you turn it.

 

Has that on my mates 170 the oil cap would tighten itself up, had to use vice grips to open it

The new black caps they have on blowers and strimmers is much better. Haven't seen them on a Stihl chainsaw yet but they don't sit smooth like the twist locks do.

Twist caps are ace!!, they double as an IQ test, when taking on new staff simply ask them to fuel a saw, those who fit the caps without issue are keepers, the others you just say "I'll call you":sneaky2:

Interesting thread. When I had only had my 261 for a short while I fueled and oiled it in the garage. However when I got to the woodpile and looked back my route was obvious and the oil tank was empty!!!!

I just assumed I hadn't put the cap back but reading this thread now makes me wonder.

 

Never had a problem since but that time I was sure I had put it back but the facts said otherwise.

Seems like some of the caps distort due to exposure to fuel with ethanol

One of my caps broke in service & the replacement does seem a bit better, the oil cap continues to be a fiddle no matter what.

 

They also needs a clean around the cap & the actual cap once removed to prevent sawdust/dirt ingress into the tank.

I'm thinking echo only had stihl and husqvarn saws but I don't need 1 for daily use

Twist caps aren't bad when you work them out, push down hard, twist hard and on they go. Sometimes a little wd40 helps

Sometimes, if they're not seated properly when you twist them you have to wind the cap back on its locking mechanism, if that makes sense.
