And there in lies the problem, nooobs on a course don't have time to waste learning the nuances of top notch sharpening

 

 

 

Get the pass then hone your skills

 

 

Fair point. I'd still say start as you mean to go on though.

 

Send a shame to use a chain that's effectively blunt out of the box!

I have bought my first saw: Stihl MS261 C-BM with a 15" bar.

 

I asked the dealer what chain is on it - he said "I don't know, it's just the one that comes with it".

 

I want to know as I have my CS30 test in 2 weeks and want to use this saw.

 

Kind of makes you wonder why on earth Stihl insist on machine handover when the dealers knowledge is so poor!

Thanks for your help everyone, I am now much better at chains and passed my CS30 today.

 

The assessor commented on me always putting on gloves before touching the chain (as I had been taught) and said I didn't have to worry about that. He gave me plenty of time to do a good sharpening job - when he checked my chain tension he cut his fingers on it!
