The customer could of told them to do one and get other quotes but that wouldn't make good tv.

Yep it's all about good tv, to be fair, that's their job.

Yeah, perhaps a demo on how to say no and mean no.

Those guys do deserve to be put in stocks though.

Did the experts actually see the job? I got a call some years ago from the Beeb asking how much for such and such coz they had a sting program on the go. So I did an over the phone price with the usual caveat about having no idea what the job looks like .

Or why didnt the idiots making the pramme get the reg and pics of outfit on the 1st vist. Then give it to plod ??? Instead of shelling out 2k of tax payers money ?????????

I'm very tempted to complain to the bbc about wasting our money. They didn't even have to quote 2k the old girl just said I've got 2000 cash here you go

God, this was in my area, the last scene being filmed round the corner from me!! It does wind me up that there are people out there that pay this kind of money. I remember doing a quote and she wanted a price there and then, which normally I wouldn't do, but gave her a price of £260. Was a piece of piss small ash pollard. She looked at me and said, are you sure? I was going to pay another guy £800!!! Lucky Sandra gave me your number!! It left me thinking, wow I could of gone in at £500 and still got the job! It pains me to think your average joe can put a value of 2 weeks wages on a job that's gonna take someone a few hours.

Some rather aggressive/rude views on here.

I know the expert personally and he is a very knowledgable arborist. Not to mention a nice guy.

I thought the original work discussed was about £500 worth and they were quoting far more than £2k.

The program was about highlighting a shocking practise from some scumbags. Well worth the BBC spending £2k if stops someone else failing victim to that sort of scam.

Well done the BBC.

I whole heartedly agree that if it takes 2 grand of license fee money to make sure these 'people' don't get any more work, then it's worth it. But, £500 for a top and trim of some small conifers? Not in a month of Sunday's mate.
