Replacing Ms260 is 261 worth it

I need another ground saw for my team. Our MS260 has been faithful for many years. I would like another one but have heard a lot of bad press about the new ms261. Any experience with the new one?

I have yet another 261 in with clutch issues but is a 2012 model. I don't know if the later oes resolved the issues or not, perhaps someone with the later model -2014 onwards would like to chip in!

I have a 2015 261 and think it's a great saw. A lot more responsive and faster than the pre auto tune models. Runs very well on a 13 or 15 inch bar and works well for me felling and snedding softwood all day every day of the week. Just don't let them run out of fuel as they are a pain to start if you do, unlike my older 261.

I have a new 261 and run it on an 18inch bar. I really like it.

Use a ms 261 as a limbing saw,no issues works great.

I got a 2014 261, had some bearing problems initially however have not had any problems since and I like using it. Run a 15inch bar on it.

 

Also...I don't have the hot starting issues after it's run out of fuel unlike one of the above posts.

The MS261 isn't really well suited for limbing, too heavy, bulky and clumsy handling for a 50cc saw.

Of course it depends on what you compare it to, but the 550xp (or the older 346xp) is a much better alternative, lighter, neater and really nimble!

Got two off 261's in April this year. Both now dead. Replaced with Echo 450's. No problems!
