I see that some of you climbers are having a hard time and looking for another job, how about installing flexible chimney linings ? Woodburning stoves need a class 1 chimney liner, which will often mean removing the old gas fire lining and fitting a double skin flexible liner. There are so many new stoves being sold the manufacturers are struggling to keep up.

You need to be able to work at height and be fairly strong. Ideal ?

Just a thought.

:dito: i was under the impression you would need a gas fitter with cert to remove the old gas pipe or to cap it off??? (safety reasons):001_tt2:

i did my own as well, some of the gas liners are class 1 ( so my brother-in-law gas fitter tells me) so in theory you could just hook your wood burner flu into that you may have to re-instate a chimney but thats easy peezy.

HETAS course is what you mean, I think. Have done a little of this recently and it is not as simple as you think. When a 40m roll of liner can cost £1500, you only need to wreck one length trying to get it down the chimney to make a nasty dent in your profits. To do the job properly, you need to match liner to appliance, not chimney, and then backfill with Vermiculite to insulate the liner to make sure that all the tars and other nasties stay gaseous on the way out. Of course, this means you need to plate off the base of the chimney/top of the chamber. Look at a firm called Designafireplace in Southend to get an idea of what's involved.
