Trannie HD clutches...is there such a thing?

Ok so not really an 'arb truck' but I know loads here use Transit tippers. I've been asking around re a heavy duty clutch as ours is starting to smell when asking too much of it. Local Mr Clutch couldn't tell me but surely if an HD was available they'd be fitted from the off. Btw Mr Clutch said £350 for complete job which sounded reasonable so long as we don't them every week. Any views/experiences from others welcome.

AP racing offer HD clutch kits for a Landy so they may well do one for a transit. If not you would do better to get a fitter to install an LUK kit with a solid flywheel.I dont think Mr clutch will fit anything other than a budget cheapy.

Clutch out of our transit that was smelling, way to small for a semi commercial.

Swapped the crappy disintegrated DMF on mine to a solid on 70k, 95k with no issues and no noticeable difference to gear change.

Don't do any heavy towing, mind.

Why to they fit the problematic DMF's in the first place?

I asked this same question and was told.... "Ford want their vans to drive and feel like cars"....

I guess that's why they also put car engines in them as well......

Mine is an 07 plate tipper with a 5 speed box. I've had it for nearly 6 years now and it's pulled an unbelievable amount of weight in that time

The solid clutch kits are good our duel mass lasted about 20,000 miles I put the first solid one in when the transit hit about 70,000 miles and it lasted till it hit 163,000 miles. I've just changed the gearbox as the original gave up and put another clutch in at the same time.

So as long as the chassis and cab hold out for the next 100,000 jobs a good one (touching lots of wood regularly) as we all know what ford stands for. Fixed Or Repaired Daily.
