T540xp or the new 201 TCM?

Now the new 201 TC-M has been out for a few months, how is it?

 

I like the power of the T540xp but don't like the build quality, the fact that the choke is in a different location to the on off switch and the that it goes cold quickly.

 

I prefer the build quality and design of the 201 but hate that its gutless. So whats the new TC-M like on power and throttle response?

 

I was leaning towards the stihl due to good early reviews but now FR Jones have thrown a spanner in the mix selling the T540xp for £470 and the local prices for the stihl are £550.

 

What the best option?

New 201M is miles better than the old model, no bog off idle, and the throttle response is fast. Arguably the 201 isn't as fast as the 540xp, which is receiving a new belly pan, fuel tank and av spring soon.

Have recently replaced 540 xp for 201 tcm great power in 540 but let down by poor quality components

201 tcm is a great saw as close to 200t as you will get

started using a 200tcm recently and it seem nice to use seems a bit lighter and more nimble than the 200t and the auto on switch it handy, powerfull enough id say, havent tried the husky tho.

I'd avoid the 540 it's the only saw that can fling a chain off the bar no matter how much you tension it loosen it or change bars/chains. It's well documented it's made of cheese so I won't divulge in that

Does the new 201 chain brake get clogged up with gunk and stop working like the old one?

I've been using the new m-tronic 201 today, brilliant little saw. Definite improvement on the old old 201.

I bought the 540 when it came out and thought wow, finally a decent grunty saw again. Then it fell apart, so I fixed it and it fell apart again... and again and again etc... you get what I mean. Bought the new 201 and well so far so good, grunty saw and it hasn't broke! Well the av spring on the handle is abit bent but it doesn't affect the everyday use. I'd buy another one.
