Sorry this will have been asked before!

Got some large lumps of Lime, wondering what the stability will be like? I know it will be easy to work but not sure about life span of carvings.

Because its large will be bigger and more expensive carving therefore don't want to do something that decays on the customer in a short time!

Grateful for any experience/advice on Lime.

Thanks

wood carvers have used lime for centuries so you know it will behave but if this is for an outdoor carving the make it a roof as it wont last long out in the

elements.

try something that is more weatherproof like cedar of lebanon, western red cedar, larch, lawsons cypress or wellingtonia.

Hu... I didn't know lawsons cypress had good properties for outside. We took down a masive one last week and passed on all the timber. If I had knower I would have kept a couple lengths.

That Viking fact is amazing!

Sorry for the derail :001_smile:

Have you seen any of Grinlin Gibbons carvings they are all done in lime inside stuff , but amazing in one there are sheets of music that look like they would move in the wind so lifelike , and yrs and yrs old so ideal for carving stuffto go inside
