Universal Credit

Hello,

Having read through the forum last night, I'm not sure if anyone has picked up on what the introduction of Universal Credit means.. Especially in this industry with a high percentage of self-employed. Not a problem if you make enough dough, but could be a real issue for others.

Why the self-employed need to wake up to the threat posed by Universal Credit : RSA blogs

Universal credit for the self-employed

The above two articles make interesting reading,

Chris

Chris, I managed to stomach the first article. Boxing the masses into groups and continuing to pay support or unemployment compensation is one more classic example of kicking the problem down the road. Everyone gets to pay, a percentage receives free cash and society continues to spend itself into oblivion. When the £££££, or $$$$$ run out, and they will the politicians will have lots of explaining to do, no responsibility in the end.

Ending price supports, subsidies, and grants for anything can in time right the ship since people will be responsible for them selfs, instead of depending on the Government for everything and settling for a lot less. This would take at least Three generations in my country, maybe longer in the UK?. The question is a matter of choice. Kick the can down the road and have less and less for more and more taxes levied, or start to roll in the welfare state and hold people accountable for the selfs and no longer dependent on governments for their total existence.

pay support or unemployment compensation

receives free cash and society continues to spend itself into oblivion.

Now there is a typical American rant from someone who simply doesn't understand the system

What you call compensation and free cash are insurance policies.

I have spent decades paying my dues to these insurances on the understanding that should such need arise the powers that be will pitch in.

Recently I have had a lot of help from the NHS who administer my health care on behalf of the government. I have ongoing care from a stroke specialist, a consultant cardiologist, a consultant ophthalmologist, a cardio nurse, and a physio.

When I came out of hospital in Feb, I had an assisted discharge team including physio, speech and language therapists, district nurse and an enablement team to modify my home, all on 1 to 1 home visits.

None of this is any sort of unemployment compensation or free money, its the benefits of paying into an insurance for more than 3 decades.

The upshot of all this is that I can look forward to getting back to work as soon as the doc's let me.

If the UK is as you describe then all of the USA is a scene from Breaking Bad, I saw your country on the TV like you saw mine so it must be so.

If your gullible enough to believe an American TV show, I can take the rest of your reply for what it is worth.

I think it's called irony.

The rights and wrongs of benefits and the benefits system come in the same leauge as the West Lothian question.. Something for endless debate and counter arguement.

Having been made aware of the issues surrounding the introduction of UC I felt others who may be affected would want to know, and talk it through with an accountant...

He knows that, please god, he knows that and was just filling the space because he didn't have an answer.

The system your referring to does not work for everyone, if it was forced to due to a natural disaster or invasion it would completely fold. House of cards, yes your still gullible to believe american TV, especially the tripe you mentioned earlier.

It does work though Ted. It's not perfect by any means, but it works!

We, in the UK pay tax and National Insurance, in return we get free health care at the point of delivery, from cradle to grave.

Second that . Had a real bad accident 12 years back . Had a lot of work done , metal in my leg and a metal knee , a metal shoulder and all the after care and physio and occy health that goes with it . Coz I had paid my stamp all these years it was all done with good grace and care at no cost . It works believe me .
