Best tree height measuring tool

Hi, just wondering if anyone's got any recommendations for tree height measuring equipment for surveying work

I use a Leica Disto D8. It took a bit of getting used to, but now I couldn't do without it!

 

I have also used the truepulse lasers which are also pretty good.

 

A suunto hypsometer would be the cheapest way to go, but they take a lot longer to get your measurement.

I tried one, all looked fantastic in the brochure and in the show room. I bought it, got it home, gave it a bit of a workout and found that it was actually too good (I mean too accurate / precise / sensitive)

 

Great features, diameter, measure from picture all that sort of stuff but when I got out in the woods with it I found ivy, moving branches, irregularities of nature were just too 'clumsy' for the incredibly accurate tool that was the D810.

 

Maybe I was hasty in giving up on it but I was keen to get it back to the dealer as soon as possible so as not to lose the opportunity to return it. Too pricey to just have it sitting around gathering dust.

I have the Haglof clinomiter but it's a pain to use with having to keep measuring out distances. I like using the true pulse ones!

I've used a throw line before . Throw to the top of tree. The length is your height
