Interesting concept. What happens when the number of state ownership farms become a majority share of the overall market?. Will pricing of say Milk be the exclusive domain of the state and not the free market supply and demand theory?. How will the state cope with imports from other countries, like EU countries dumping lower cost Milk on the market?

 

Who will determine experience and qualification?

 

I get the part of the owner drawing a salary from the state since by default that person is employed by the same entity.

Ted, I can't say my suggestion was thoroughly thought through or even entirely serious. I'm no fan of nationalised industry ( for exactly the reasons you mention just above) but if we hit a point where cumulative annual subsidy exceeds the original purchase value surely the business MUST belong to the tax payer (it happened with the bank bailout.)

I do feel for you mate. The system is deeply flawed and not at all suited to supporting the working farmer - in my view / limited understanding of the system. The outstanding question I can't understand though, is why grass roots farmers don't get a grip of their union - the NFU. I can't see how they are doing anything other than supporting the very rich / very big businesses and the quangos. Look at the top recipients of subsidy - the likes of county councils, LANTRA, National Trust, Duchy of Cornwall, Duchy college, RSPB etc. Then there are the investors buying the subsidy rights without any interest in farming. It's not helping grass roots farmers so why aren't they holding the NFU to account? It's unbelievably bloody wrong and it's the man/woman at the end of the food chain that's feeling the most pain.

 

 

Agreed the NFU has never really helped the small farmers according to my dad it's always the big boys that make their voice heard.(the most to gain I suppose)

I may get there in the end that's why I'm working bloody hard now as you never know my business my "click" and start paying out after years of blood sweat tears and money being pumped in!

If it does I will find that piece of land I want but I may have to go to France to find it!

Still no free elections, still no political prisoners released, still no public disavowment of support of terrorism around the world. And of course the cuban government has the gull to want reparations from the US and Uncle Sap:thumbdown:

I have Cuban friends that got out of Cuba before castro took over the entire country and they were lucky to have made it out alive. There other family members did not surrive:thumbdown: Really sorry for the derail on this thread, I take this personel.
