Hi,

does anyone else out there have an issue with the new M-tronic MS362 not starting up again once it is warm?

The saw is less than 6 months old and has already been back to Stihl once for a new carburetor under warrenty.

But, it will not start up again once warm, taking at least 40 pulls a time to get going, and now over 100 pulls on some days.

I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and whether Stihl ever solved the problem for you.

(no wonder it's sold as being 20% more fuel efficient - you end up using it less because it won't start!).

many thanks

Bettina

Here is what i have found with 550xp with this fault , Meter lever requires adjusted , Stihl Ht lead clips have a habit of wearing the end of the spark plug in a mater of weeks 441 and 661 .

Did anyone find out the reason why the 362's are doing this? I've had the top of the carb several times adjusting the metering arm and slightly moved the throttle butterfly to raise the idle speed. All seem to work fine when the saw is cold, starts after a few pulls and idles fine. Gets warm and just decides it wants to stop and wont start again until its cooled down. Changed the plug just in case it was that causing the problem, but still no different. Unfortunately its out of warranty so unless its something I can sort myself it'll be down the road before long!!! Shame as when it is running it a strong little saw, but just damn annoying.

Hello All,

I thought I should update my previous post.

After many months of back and forth to Stihl, and numerous mis-leading diagnostics, they finally, reluctantly admitted that they could not fix it and issued us with a refund.

The unofficial verbal response I had from them was that there is an unknown glitch with the m-tronic and they were still trying to work out what caused it. (Our saw ended up being sent back to head office in Germany).

They said that some of the new saws with m-tronic have been affected by this, but until you buy and use one, you won't know if your saw is likely to be one that suffers (how's that for a sale's pitch!).

I would say that even if your saw is out of warranty but suffering from this problem, deal with the technical department of Stihl direct and keep persevering with them. You might be lucky and get them to accept that it is the saw that is at fault, not you.

Good luck.

Bettina

Begs the question, what have you replaced it with?

So just to update on this.

I took your advise Bettina and contacted Stihl direct via the website about the problem I was experiencing, and even though it was 9 months out of warranty they took it in and replaced the carb foc. They openly admitted that a few of the earlier saw with mtronic had experienced issues!! So why no recall..

Anyway collected the saw today and yes it does appear to have cured the stopping once warm problem so all good really. Although it did take them 2 weeks, but can't really complain as it was out of warranty!! I'm not sure it has the same grunt that it had previously but it does keep running.

I would suggest anyone else experiencing the same issues get onto Stihl and get the same fix.

Thank you again Bettina without your advise I'd still be struggling along with it haha.

My 362 has the same problem. Starts fine when cold. If I let it sit for 10 minutes once warm, will start; otherwise, when hot, won't start. It is brand new. I've paid the shop I bought it from $150 in "fixes". Stihl Northeast says it is the solenoid - they said it right away but claimed it isn't a "regular problem with the saw". Again, they seemed very familiar with the issue but claimed they haven't had steady complaints about it.
