7.5 ton or 10 ton?

If I was starting over a hgv would be first priority, as for the question 10, 12 or even 14 tonner with crane would be my choice. I had a 7.5 ton Isuzu great lorry for filling with chip and never went over loaded, but ideally you need a crane in this game you won't fit ond and carry more than 3 ton if fitted to a 7.5 toner.

As for 3.5 toners they're a waste of time and effort, I learnt through the hard way..

A way around this is to run 2 vehicles.

We run a 3.5t tipper plus a Navarra towing an Ifor tipping trailer which gives us 7m3 plus 3m3 legally.

Tipper can tow loaded trailer if required and Navarra does for quoting too.

About £25k for that set up depending on your taste in 4x4 bling...

We've just got a quote for a new Iveco 7.5t 170hp with difflock and a toolbox behind the cabin with a cage on top for hand tools etc

Tipper has aluminium removable high sides covered with a tarp.

It's good for 8m3 which is around 3t.

Add 3 lads and gear then we should still be within the legal limit.

Things are afoot!

Been eying this up for a while.

At 8.5k I could sell the transit custom the back doors and still have change.

If I got a run of big takedowns would be a no brainer

Be a nightmare to reverse the timberwolf with it

surely with an 18 ton crane lorry you could build a little compartment (with a lid on) to crane the chipper into and still have enough room for timber and/or chip ?

Easy enough with a reversing camera, or for a low tech solution put a flag on each side of the chipper.

Hgv are the way forward we did 3 big 50ft sycamores today! All chip in 7.5 t all timber in 18 t plus Stumpgrinding arisings. Most tree teams would have struggled doing one in a day with a transit

That were "nuthin" but an hours for T kangoo :001_smile:
