Stihl ms150, My opinion

In short, I love this saw. its so light and a pleasure to use on small pruning jobs. Its certainly not suitable as a sole climbing saw unless you really are doing a tiny amount of aerial work. It will cut through decent sized timber but at a fustrating pace if you are used to using an ms201 or similar. I will typically use this on a job where most of the cuts are no bigger than 6". I have had zero reliability issues with the saw over an 8 month period now

Sounds good, my arms have been aching a bit recently so might look at getting one to take a bit of the strain off

I've never thought of the ms200 or 201 being heavy, but after using the 150 for a couple hours then picking up the 201 its surprising the difference

Mine is an early one I think,must be 2 years old ish and is a great little pruning tool, also been v reliable

Totally agree! its a fantastic little saw almost un-noticeable on the harness which is great on big prunes. Another saw Stihl got right imo!

It has stepped unto the mark though when the oil pump on my 200 packed up doing some birch fellings.

It will certainly do it if it has to! It's just not the best option.

I treated myself to one for when I was up in the cage cutting rhodos, nice and easy on your arms than a555, powerful enough for that type of job. Would not price the shelf price my local dealer wanted,£480, so sourced it over a hundred quid cheaper.

Only used one briefly a few times myself, but a guy I work with has had one for a few months now and it's proven to be a cracking little saw.

 

Was a bit dubious of the tiny chain to start with but found it's fine, just doesn't need to be too tight or sharpened too agressively.

 

It's original use was for pruning and on finer branched removals, but it tends to be his go to tophandle unless it's all big limbs or needs a bit more chain speed.

 

Only thing we've found is that you need to keep the bar rails very clean as it doesn't take a lot to stop it oiling, but other than that it's been faultless.
